| OUR HISTORY |
![]() Almost a "native" of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Nancy is originally from the Philadelphia area from a dog-loving family of five children. For a brief spell, the family was without pets, but in 1985, she purchased her first Bulldog. She started attending local all-breed and specialty club meetings and it wasn't long before she was fully ensconced in the workings of the clubs, holding every position possible. It was through the Fort Lauderdale Dog Club and one of its members, Ted Birk, that she was introduced to ADOA. She was asked to record the minutes of ADOA's annual meeting which was being hosted by the Ft. Lauderdale club, and she did so for many years. As ADOA has their annual meeting in a different region each year, she was able to see many places not yet traveled. The First Emerald Bulldog, |
![]() Nancy has a rather conservative approach to the "dog business". In the 20 years she has been involved, she has only bred 5 litters (in house) and one that was co-owned but lives elsewhere. Having volunteered at the local humane society for two years further indicates her commitment to responsible dog breeding and ownership. Her first litter (five) produced four champions which put CH. Alcar's Emerald Aunt Gemima into the Bulldog Club of America's Hall of Fame. With that success, the breeding was repeated and produced more champion get. Just shy of being awarded a Hall of Fame Plateau Award, "Mima" still earned a Beckett Award which is bestowed on those mothers who produce the most champions in a specified five (5) year period. Mima left us at the age of 11, but she shared with us a full life of love and happiness. She will never be replaced. She was truly a special matriarch and we hold a very special place for her in our hearts and in the legacy she has left in her children. Nancy and Bill look forward to their Hall of Fame induction as breeders, having bred 10 champions, having been accomplished with very limited breeding. |
In professional life, Nancy is Sales Assistant to one of the more successful salesmen in the megayacht industry. Bill is an Aeronautical Engineer. He spent several years with United Airlines until the airline business started cutting back and the future became uncertain, and he accepted a position as consultant / surveyor for an aircraft damage and loss assessment firm in Miami. Bill's background and technical experience, coupled with the fact that Bulldogs don't necessarily fly well, accelerated their interest and involvement in the air travel for pets committee with ADOA, hence the publication of "Pets 'N Jets". |
